Our Story

In June 2015, Lake County embarked on a year-long research project to better understand the barriers to accessing outdoor recreation in our community. Out of the research, Get Outdoors Leadville! (GOL!) was born. GOL! is committed to breaking down the cultural, social, and economical barriers to safely accessing and enjoying experiences in nature.

GOL! envisions a world where people of all identities, backgrounds, and abilities experience safety, wellness, and a sense of belonging in the natural world.

  • We support the health and wellness of individuals, the community, and the environment. We provide knowledge, skills, and equipment that promote enjoyment of and relationships to our natural environment through human-powered outdoor experiences.

  • We embrace the outdoors as an ideal space to build connections - to self, to others, to local places, and to the greater natural world. We facilitate outdoor access that optimizes the potential for connections.
